PLAYERS OF THE WEEK "WELCOME NEW TEAM-MATES" This year we have a group of new players, returning players and players that have changed Jersey's this weeks stars go out to those who had an immediate impact on their game.
*** Mark Mattaliano (Papp's Electric) A longtime member of KatManDu Mark decided he needed a change. Papp's welcomed him aboard with open arms and Mark responded in great fashion. In probably the best game of the week, Papp's trailing 4-1 ended up with 4 goals in the in the 3rd period and won the game in a shoot-out. Though Mark's line-mate and spark plug Kevin Luber had 2 goals and 2 assists, Mark had a huge assist to Kevin to tie the game at 4 and then Mark scored a big late goal to tie the game to go into overtime. For that Mark Mattiliano is our 3 star player of the week.
**Frank Francese (Ram Law) Former Wildflower player from 2 years ago, Frank has returned to CJSHA now with a new team. He was welcomed in and with his gracious returned he scored 2 Goals to help his team win 2-1 in the opening week.
*Matt Acker (Stonecutters) Stonecutters every year in the deep hunt of the play-offs and/or finals. They are always tweeking and trying to put together the missing pieces. This year with the full time return of Buddy Anderson the Cutters signed Matt Acker to play along and carry Buddy. :) Well in his debut into the league Matt hit the back of the net 4 times to say, "Buddy I got this!" lol

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK "Making an Impact" This week games will feature 3 players that made key impacts for their respective team
*** Kevin Luber (Papp's Electric) Kevin is now a 3rd year player, with skill and speed with anyone in this league. He may be small in stature but his play is huge. This week to start Papp's off 2-0 he had a Hat-Trick giving him 5 goals and 2 assist for 7pts. for the first 2 games of the year. If that is not a 3 star impact player, i don't know who is.
**Jamie Magee (Sportsmen Pub) Jamie a 2nd year player with CJSHA and with a growing new team. He is a player that is not known for scoring, he is more known for is agressive play and hustle. Last season the team was known as Enterprise Fire Company who did not win their 1st game until week 14 of last year. This year a new sponsor and some new team-mates facing a Killarney's team who also had made changes. But this week he scored a 3rd period goal to help his team start the seaon off 500. For that he is our 2 star impact player of the week.
*Jay Astbury(Howarth Group-Savoy's) What can you say about Jay Astbury that has not been said before. Like this guy or not he he just a flat out nasty goal scoring sniper from the wing. Jay is known area the league and has lead the league in the past in scoring. #88 is not hard to find and teams are aware of him, regardless he still finds the back of the net. This week in another tough game he got himself a goal and assist to help continue his teams unbeaten streak. Jay Astury earns himself our 1 star impact player of the week.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK "Needing a Win" This week games will feature 3 players that were big factors in giving their respective team a much needed win
*** Laing Honeywell (Vutts Sunglasses) Kurt Honeywell formerly of last seasons Killarney's team decided he wanted to put his own team in our league. Who else would you want to start a team with besides a family member, we have great combinations around league. Kurt wanted to prove that starting week 1, despite a shoot-out loss to a fiesty Papp's team, Vutt Sunglasses showed alot of potential and showed they will be a team to deal with. With 2 losses that were very close games they needed to break out and get the monkey off their back early. Laing Honeywell helped his brother do that, while Kurt did get 3 assists in the game Laing got a Hat-Trick and added an assist. We may want to keep on eye on this combo they will be fun to watch. For Laing efforts and help give his team a much needed win he is our 3 Star Player of the Week.
**Thomas Binetti (Marty's Place) Thomas Binetti and long time league member and an outstanding player who has all the tools you need in a player. He can play physical, can dazzle you with quick hands, a guy that can score in different ways and a playmaker who sees the court well. Marty's Place opened up the season with 2 tough games with the defending Champs, Howarth Group-Savoy's and Stonecutters both rival teams not an easy start to a season. Coming into week 3 without a win, not common for this team, they need get everyone starting to go in the right direction. Despite a impoved Sportsman Pub Team, formerly Enterprise, they had a difficult task in facing a Marty's Team who seems to be in the Top 2 or 3 seeds every year. Thomas helped his team-mates get a monkey off their back and start heading in the right direction with 3 Assists in the game. His efforts had earned him our 2 Star Player of the Week
*Chris Abrams (Snipers) Chris is a 2nd year player to our league, but what a wonderful addition to add to our talented players we have across our league. Somewhat like Papp's Luber Brothers, Kevin and Matt, Chris is also small in stature but like Kevin and Matt his play is as big as they come. He has a great vision of the court and makes players around him better. His relentless effort, speed and drive is alone is fun to watch. He is a huge reason for the Snipers success in their 1st season last year, and I'm sure it will continue as long as he is on the team. The Snipers coming off a loss to the Howarth Group needed to get back into gear and they were facing off against a fiesty and never quit 2-0 Papp's Team who has been playing very well. Chris 3 point effort with 2 goals and an assist help the Snipers bounce back after a tough loss. For that he is our 1 Star Player of the Week.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK "Performing in the Games of the Week" This week will feature 3 players that made a difference in what ended up being the Games of the Week
*** Sandy Heller (Wildflowers Too) Wildflowers a team that has better players then the record shows. A team that has been struggling in scoring and consistant play, going up against a Vutt's Team that looks like they have some nice players and once they get their feet wet in this league could definitely make the 4 - 7 positions harder to come by. Sandy is a smart player that can see the court and once he gets going has a nice scoring touch. This week with a Hat Trick he helped his team get their 1st win of the season, for that Sandy Heller is our 3 Star Player of the Week.
**Jay Rejnak (Wildflowers) To be honest don't know alot about Jay but he seems he has made a quick fit in with his team. He could be a much needed player that Wildflowers could depend on for the long haul. This week he helped Wildflowers and Sandy in their win with 3 Assists. So for that he is our 2 Star Player of the Week.
*Mike Carr (Marty's Place) Mike is a veteran player of our league and probably one of the loudest on the court, but when i say loud that includes both his play and vocals. He is one to definately express his feelings without and hesitation, but with that said he is a competitor and plays with alot of heart. Though he is one of our older players don't let that fool you he is one of the quickest and has a nasty shot. In a game that Marty's is trying to get some wins and against a team that is stingy when it comes to give up goals, Mike had the 2nd goal of the game, but he always seems to be getting big goals in Marty's games. For that reason Mike is our 1 Star Player of the Week.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK "Bulk Scoring" This week will feature 3 players that scored in bunches
*** Thomas Binetti (Marty's Place) Thomas is no hidden secret, it is just how motivated he is to play. He has all the tools and skills to be easily a top 5 player in our league, at times he is a little to laid back, but apparently there was no signs of that this week scoring a Hat Trick and adding 4 assists for 7 points. Someone must have eithered offered him FREE Popeyes or something because he was fired up and he is our 3 Star Player of the Week.
**Jay Astbury (Howarth Group) What can you say about Jay that has not been said before, but there is no denying he is just a goal scoring machine. Scores in big spots and hard to contain. Jay is a top 3 player and is a big reason why The Howarth Group/Savoy's has as many championship as they do. Along with brother Blair they are a nasty duo. This week Jay scored a Hat Trick plus 2 and added an assist for good measure for 6 points. Jay Astbury is our 2 Star Player of the Week
*Buddy Anderson (Stonecuttters) Buddy is a player who played in this league in the past and then took some time off and left the area to persue other ventures and was only around minimally. He was a major player in the Stonecutters winning their Champions back in 2001-2002 season. Those that have been around know him and knows his ability. He extremely quick and is very dangerous in open court. A player that knows the game and has excellent hands. He has returned this season in a full time which can only mean good things for the Cutters. This week Buddy had 4 goals and added an assist for 5 points. Buddy's performance earned him our 1 Star Player of the Week.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK "A Captain, A Last Line of Defense, A Journey Man"
*** Blair Astbury (Howarth Group-Savoy's) What can you say about Blair that has not been said before. You can't compliment a guy more by saying he is the best player in the league. He has leader amongst a team that has alot of talent but everyone knows their role on that team. He plays strong on both sides of the court, and his passion and drive to win cannot not be questioned. For that reason this week he leads his team against a very good 5-0 Stonecutter team and came out strong to stay the only undefeated team. Blair score 2 goals and 2 assists in that game. Blair Astbury is our 3 Star Player of the Week.
**Andrew Grivnovics (Snipers) Andrew is a 2nd year player in our league, along with his 2 brothers Matt and Danny, but is no rookie when it comes to the game. He has played in many tournaments and other leagues. He has played on teams that have done nothing but win. He is a versatile player, He could agruablely be one of the best goalies and that is his natural position. But he has wanted to take a break from goalie time to time and has been a solid assest on the Snipers on defense. But this week he put the pads back on against a great offensive Marty's team and gave the Snipers a big win and kept that offense to only 1 goal. For Andrew's effort this week he earned our 2 Star Player of the week.
*Christian D'Antonio (Wildflowers Too) Christian a long time member of our league one of the old school straight up sniper type of winger who knows the game and how to play. Christian has played on multiple teams during his time in CJSHA such as the Flames, Stonecutters, JoJo's, Mustangs, Ram Law and now Wildflowers. Christian is a quiet guy but does have a knack for scoring. Christian has overcome a major obstacle approx 9-10 years ago when he was involved in a serious car accident and not only did he survive but then he was told he may not be able to walk let alone play hockey again. Well 10 years later Christian is playing and playing well with his new team. Though put on a couple of pounds in his older age LOL he can still play the game. This week he helped his team to a needed win with 2 Goals and 1 Assist, for that and his determination to come back and be on the court he is our 1 Star Player of the Week.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
*** Jay Rejnak (Wildflowers) Apparently Jay was offended when we said we didn't know much about him 2 weeks ago, because this week he made a point, a big point he made by scoring a double hat-trick and for extra measures added 2 assists. Wildflowers did a good when getting this guy, in fact he plays at foxchase and now has been a good fit in our league. Along with all our new players we welcome him. He will add extra offense to go along with Sandy Heller and a resurrected Christian D'Antonio. If they get consistency through the year this should be a good team. For Jay's efforts he is our 3 Star Player of the Week.
**Gary Monaco (Snipers) Gary is a 2nd Year player to our CJSHA and has been a good fit for the Snipers. He provides them with a center with Size and can make things happen out there. We woudn't call him a finese player but he gets the job done and finds himself always in the trenches, whether along the boards or against Defensemen fighting for a ball in front of the net. This week against a fiesty Ram Law team he scored 2 Goals including the game winner in the 3rd period. For Gary's efforts and performance he is our 2 Star Player of the Week.
*Chris Blessing (Stonecutters) Chris if I am correct is also a 2nd year player and a welcomed addition to the league. He has done a very nice job for the Stonecutters. Marek Lachmanowiecz, Stonecutters fame and claimed "MVP" has been quiet in recent times and has always been the back bone to the Cutters defense with his smart and finese play. With Chris now on the team he brings along some size and more of a physical defense. He has also provided them with offensive scoring with 2 goals and 1 assists to help his team with this week win. He also is now 3rd in scoring on the Stonecutters with 11 points, 13th in league overall and #1 amongst Defensemen. Chris Blessing has earned 1 Star Player of the week.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
*** Charlie Ahr (Ram Law) This season has been a tough start for Ram Law. In 8 games they have been involved in 5 1 goal games with only 1 win out of the 5. When
Ram Law is mentioned a lot of times Charlie's name seems to be not to far
behind. He has been one of Ram Law's main scorers and has had scored
a lot of their big goals in past. Along with last week, again this week with their Goalie Mike Dipilla out and back up goalie Szuter also out, Charlie is now in goal for the Law Group. He came up short last week in a 4-3 loss to the Snipers, he returned this week and earned a 4-0 shut-out against Papp's Electric. For Charlie's efforts and helping his team get back to 500 has earned him our 3 Star Player of the week.
**Buddy Anderson (Stonecutters) The Cutters over the years have tried to pick up players to help the offense of what Buddy has provided to the Cutters before his absence for a few seasons. They always has seemed to fall short. Now this season with him back in the line up has not missed a beat leading the Cutters in scoring and 2nd in the league with 23 points. This week tied in record with the Snipers he had 4 assists to help his team take sole position of 2nd after week 8. For this he is our 2 Star Player of the Week
*Doug Hunt (Howarth Group) The Howarth Group has a lot of great players with names that seem to repeat from Blair, Jay, Craig, Sandro and so on. These guys putting up numbers week in and week out. Sometimes we try to find a player that doesn't get the usual attention. Doug Hunt, his name pops up occassionally but honestly not sure if it does enough. This guy is the meaning of consistant and steady. A big mobile defensemen that is as quiet vocally that you can be, but with Jay, Sandro, Guy and when he is there Ray on the team do you need really any more vocals (lol). But Doug is definitely amongst the best defensemen in the league and can hold his own without question. This week scoring back to back goals to get his team rolling Doug is our 1 Star Player of the Week.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
*** Jay Astbury (Howarth Group-Savoy's) What can you say another great performance by this guy. He is #1 in 3 of the 6 league leader categories; Points, Goals and Points Per Game. He is top 15 in Assists. Jay does not play goal so we will give him a pass on that, or does he? The stat that is a good one not to be in top 15 which he has lead or been in the top of in past years is the Penalty Leaders. As you can see if he stays out of the box the guy averages 3.3 points per game and he is a threat everytime he touches the ball. This week proved to be no different, Jay has 5 points in their 5-1 win this week. 2 Goals and 3 assists. Even short-handed he had assisted on 2 goals to brother Blair. For his performance against Ram Law he is our 3 Star player of the game
**Jimmy Fields (Vutt Sunglasses) Though Vutt doesn't have the record they would like, they do show up everyone week and play hard. It is always tough for new player and/or teams to come in to an established league and have great first years. But one of the better players on Vutt is Jim Fields, he has been trying to do his part. Jim is 4th on his team in points with 5 goals. This week in a close game he scored the Game Tying and The Winning Goal in OT against Sportsmen. For this performance he his our 2 star player of the week.
*Mark Rodriguez (Stonecutters) Since M-Rod has come to the Stonecutters he has provided them with Stability and a player that can play both offense and defense with the same effectiveness. He is very low spoken person but plays as hard and lays it out their every game. He is 3rd on his team and 12th overall with 13 points. The stat which I find even more important is PPG and he is 15th in league with a 1.3. Which means he is involved in a lot of his team games while providing productivity. This week the Cutters ended up winning a close game against Wildflowers he had scored 2 goals in a 5-4 win. For that he is our 1 Star Player of the Week.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
*** James Mort (Stonecutters) To this point Stonecutters are having a good year. There are always in the running in the top 3 teams but this year especially they seem to have a little better stride. Added a couple of players and bulked up on Scoring which over years has been lacking. The key is to make sure these guys are around for the play-offs is when the Cutters really need their numbers. With Buddy Anderson back playing a full year and having some help instead of relying on just him they are a better team. This season Buddy's line-mate has been James Mort who is 2nd in team scoring and 8th in the league. He is offensive threat and though it is his 2nd year in our league he is no stranger to competitive hockey. This week against a good defensive team and goalie who can be at times as tough as any. Mort completely was the key to his team this week in a 6-0 win. He had a hand in every goal with assisting on 5 and scoring one himself, for that 6 point effort he earned our 3 Star Player of the Week. **Steve Ent (Vutt Sunglasses) With back to back tough wins against Sportsmen Pub, Steve Ent is a big forward scoring 2 goals last week and this week Vutt's only 2 goals to give his team a 2-1 victory. The victory this week has them tied in 6th place and Though they got a game in hand only 4 points seperates them from 4th place. That will be a tall order, but if they keep playing well; as they say anything can happen thats why we play the games. But for Steve's 4 goals in 2 weeks and helping his team in victory he is our 2 Star Player of the Week.
*Joe Arnao (Marty's Place) This year Joe has taken the reins and there has been a difference. He is in the top 15 in all-4 offensive categories and that is no surprise. There seems to be a calmer effect on the bench and a more focused Marty's. Joe speaks volumes with his play and tone. Marty's have plenty of vocal pieces, Joe gives them a more focus and relax feel, but don't mistake that from playing hard or intense. Joe is one of the best competitors and knows how to win. If Marty's continue to stay focus and not beat themselves they will be even more of a dangerous team. Don't let the 4th placing seeding fool anyone. This Marty's Team is still a top team that can score and play defense with the best of the them. This week Joe had a goal and 2 assists in help his team in victory. For his over-all efforts and this week play he earns our 1 Star Player of the Week
|
|
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK "Flood Bowl" This week we had 5 Great Games, the majority played in tough conditions. We could have a number of different players as our Players of The Week, so it was a tough decision but we feel after many factors taken in to consideration and hours of debating these were our 3 finalists voted upon the 30 panel committee
*** Mike Finkler (Sportsmen Pub)
Sportmen Pub formerly known as Enterprise Fire Company, a 2nd year team. Like any new team to a new league they know that each win is a tough one to get and is cherrished when you get it. These guys play each week with a lot of heart and knowing that there is no easy game on their schedule, they fight the odds and still show up because of the love of our game. Mike is one of the main guys on this team and has played a solid defense for Sportsmen Pub. So this week in a tough battle with Killarney's that went back and forth and ended up in a 16 man Shoot-Out; Mike Finkler not necessary known for goal scoring, which has been usually the Lubranos or Danny Virgal, he stepped up and his Goal was the deciding factor in this game. Mike's effort earned him our 3 Star Player of the Week.
**Ryan Burger (Howarth Group-Savoy's) Ryan Burger what can you say about this guy. One of the quietest and nicest guys on this team and in the league. He plays for a tremendous team that has been superb over the years. Multiple of championships and very few losses along the way. One of the main and steady factors is Ryan has been the guy between the pipes. Yes you can say this team is loaded with talented offensive players and you would not be lying. But over the years when Ryan has been called upon and needed to stand on his head or even an game winning glove save that could have changed the game he has been there. This week was not any different. Snipers looking to even up the series and at times seem to have a lot of opportunities in the Green Machines zone, Ryan made some great saves to keep his team un-defeated. Ryan Burger could arguable be the most under-rated goalie in our league due to the team he plays on, but those that know him and seen him play outside this team knows that is far from the truth. For his efforts he has earned our 2 Star Player of the Week.
*Vitto Aconi (Wildflowers) We know very little about Vitto, but we know as a first year goalie in this league he is 6-6 on a team that has been hit a little but a light bench but plays with as much heart as any team. As a first year goalie on a team that will have its ups and downs he is standing his own. This week he faces a Ram Law team that not necessary known for bulk scoring but can score big goals and they can come from any angle. So in a game that has 2 out of 3 teams battling for spots 4,5 and 6 this was a big game and Vitto earned his first CJSHA Shut-Out Win. For that he has earned our 1 Star Player of the Week.
|
|
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK "Week 13" This week we had some really outstanding individual performances. We easily could have had 6 guys to try to fill 3 spots.
*** Rich Wood (Stonecutters) Rich has been a long time member of CJSHA and misses very little games. Week in and week out in all conditions he is between the pipes. If he has missed 3 games in 4 years that is probably a lot. Rich over the years has been one of the top 3 goalies no matter what bodies are in front of him. He has played behind mediocre to very good teams. He has made 4 Finals and has a championship ring. Unfortunately the 3 finals he has lost they were against Savoy's and we know what there win-loss status is. He has made finals with teams that most people think should not have been there. He has been the heart and Soul of the Charlie Brown/Stonecutters teams over the years. With that brief history said this year he probably has the best Cutter team he has had in front him through his CJSHA tenure. Great Defense but finally some help on the offensive side to give him some relief. This year he is 11-1 The only loss was to the undefeated Howarth Group. His Goals Against is 1.92 3rd amongst goalies with 4 or more games. Rich and his team look like they are the clear 2nd place team and are looking to make it to their 5th final appearance. This week they played a team they always have tough battles with during the season and always close games. This week was no exception against Ram Law. Cutters got an early 2-0 the lead in the 1st and Rich did the rest and shut-down Ram Law to earn his 11th win and tied with Ryan Burger in the league's leading 4th Shut-Out of the season. For that he has earned our 3 Star Player of the Week.
**Kurt Honeywell (Vutt Sunglasses) Kurt has decided to put a team in this year and hopefully be around to build from it. Kurt has had a good season to this point. 11th overall in points with 1.3 points per game. So if Vutt is on the score board be sure Kurt will be involved in the game. His team had a very diffuicult task facing the un-beaten Howarth Group. Though his team did lose 7-4 they did managed what only Papp Electric was able to do this season and score 4 goals against them. Howarth Group a team that has given up more than 2 goals only for its 3rd time this season. For Kurt scoring 2 of them and assisting on another for 3 points in that game is the reason he is our 2 Star Player of the Week.
*(A side note Blair and Jay Astbury had a combine 10 points in that Game)
*Dave Hammond (Marty's Place) Dave Hammond a first year player to CJSHA but not to hockey. He has played in leagues such as Woodhaven, Sportsplex, Foxchase and also has played in multiple Tournaments. If I am correct he has played along with Joe Arnao on his Stars Teams. Marty's has been pretty much the same guys over the years. They have been and still are a tight knit group that has been a top 2 team over the years. Dave is the kind of player Marty's like, an aggressive 2 way player that can be used as different options. Dave may be the Sleeper that can be a big factor for Marty's in the Play-Offs. This week he stepped up and scored 5 points including a Hat-Trick to help his team. Dave efforts earned him our 1 Star Player of The Week.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK 14
*** Christian D'Antonio (Wildflowers) It has been awhile since he has been a top 15 player in our league. Christian is in 3 of the 4 offensive categories with 17 points. Tied 2nd on his team with Sandy Heller. He is having one of his best seasons in a long time. He has gone through 5 teams since being in the league and has over come major physical injury a few years ago. He is a guy that knows the game and at times not afraid to let you know that. LOL :) but he is a overall good person and good team-mate. This is his 1st season with Wildflowers, a team that has some good parts to it and has been hurt by missing parts. Through an up and down season they are 7-7 and right in the thick of things coming down the stretch. Apparently Sunday is a Christian's favorite day and this Sunday it was his best in a long time. Christian had a 4 point day Scoring 2 Goals and 2 Assists to help his team. For this weeks sermon and for helping his team down the righteous path... Christian is our 3 Star Player of the Week
**Mike Dipilla (Ram Law)
Mike and his team seems slightly off then normal this year, but you can never count this guy or his team out. This team seems to win or lose as Mike's performance due mostly because they are not a high powered offense team. They win games by keeping games close and try to outlast their opponents. Though they seem to be struggling a little bit more than normal they are still in the middle of the pack and can at anytime pose a threat to any team they play. They can been completely out of sync one week and then before you know that have you scrambling. Ram Law was coming off a 2 game losing streak were then have been shut-out, but this week they seemed to have gotten the monkey off their back. Not only did they score 5 goals but Mike Dipilla got a long waited Shut-Out win. For his efforts Mike has earned our 2 Star Player of the Week.
*Joe Arnao (Marty's Place)
Joe has been a great fit for Marty's. His play is top notch, he can score or set-up a play with the best of them. He sees the court extremely well and he moves smoothly for a big guy. Amongst a talented team that at times can be very vocal he provides a calm factor that if he can instill this into this team it can be a major benefit in the play-offs. Where Marty's is seeded is not a major issue and can actually benefit them not being a #1 or #2 seed. This year with the Cutters season Marty's and Snipers seem to have moved into the 3rd and 4th hole. This gives them a chance to play a little looser and to settle down instead of feeling they need to be in the top spot. When it comes to play-offs it will be 0-0 for everyone. We know Joe is a good leader and has had winning teams, hopefully his team knows that as well. Joe is a top 15 player in all 4 offensive categories and this week he assisted on the 1st 3 goals of the game. For his effort he is our 1 Star Player of the Week.
