PREVIEW
The first game of the season kicks off with a new team and a new-look team. The
Jersey Snipers boast a few recognizable names such as Matt Cento, Jeff Rigby, and
of course Alan Sherman. The Snipers should be interesting to watch and could be
a suprise team this year. They face the team formerly known as Rosa's, now known
as Killarney's. But make no mistake this team will have quite a few fresh faces
to go with many returning players. If Killarney's is as revamped as word has it,
they could be a tough first test for the Snipers.
GAME RECAP
When word spread the Matt Cento, Alan Sherman and Jeff Rigby were putting in a team and they were going to be short players, most of the league smiled at the thought of two expansion wins on the schedule but we knew better. The Jersey Snipers not only had a full bench, but it was full of players from the RAW franchise up at Foxchase (multi-season champions). The RAW contingent made a huge opening day splash as they led the Snipers to a 6-1 vicory over Killarney's Pub (formerly Rosa's Pizza). Billy Yocum had two goals and an assist and took home CJSHA First Star honors for Week 1. Danny Grivnovics, Andrew Grivnovics, Jeff Rigby and Gary Monaco rounded out the scoring for the Snipers. Mike Haley scored the lone tally for the Killarney's club, which had many new faces and looked much improved. Dave Bennett was solid in goal for the winners, while Jason Ciarlante kept Killarney's in the game (only 3-1 until the 11 minute mark of the third period).

PREVIEW
The
second game of the day boasts another new team facing a team that has improved
each of the past 3 seasons. Enterprise doesn't have as many familiar faces as
the Snipers, but they can't be taken for granted. Papp may also have some new
players looking to make an impact and as always watch out for the Luber brothers
This game should be a good gauge to see where Enterprise stands with the rest of
the league.
GAME RECAP
Papp's Electric opened the season in grand style as the hung an 8-0 win on the other expansion squad, the Enterprise Fire Company. Papp's jumped on the new guys right away as Dan Zaun and Kevin Ferry put them up 2-0 in the first five minutes of the game. Though they fought hard, Enterprise was never able to overcome the early setback. Jim Garbe was flawless in goal for Papp's and takes home a shutout in the first game after winning the championship in goal for Blair's Team in the Summer Tournament. Matt Luber scored four goals and was named CJSHA Three Star Player for Week 1. AJ Kosak and Jeff Kryzanzowski were the other scorers for Papps.

PREVIEW The third game of the day squares off two old rivals, as these teams have faced off twice in the finals. Savoy's has a good track record against the Cutters but you can never underestimate Rich Wood's impact on a game, he can be the difference between a victory and a loss. As always Craig Hartman, Jay and Blair Astbury will be the ones to watch for Savoy's.
GAME RECAP
Missing three of the top players in the CJSHA (Scott Bertoli, Craig Hartman and Guy Ponticello), Savoy's looked to have their hands full with the StoneCutters in the Week 1 matchup. However Savoy's penalty killing unit was a perfect 4-for-4 and Jay Asbury, CJSHA Two Star Player of the week, netted a Hat Trick as Savoy's beat the Red Army 4-2. Blair Astbury had two assists and was a physical force as always. Newcomer Chris Caplin scored for Savoy's and is a player to watch this season. He could have as big of an impact this year as Bertoli had last year for the defending champs. Chris Cresenzo scored in the first period to give the Cutters the 1-0 lead, but they could not hold Savoy's off. Joe Passio scored on a nice set up from James Mort (one of the bigger free agent signing of the off season) to pull the StoneCutters within two, but they could not get another past Danny Byard, who was solid in goal for Savoy's.

PREVIEW
Another game that is an age old rivalry. With the retirement of Larry "Hipper"
Pavelchek Wildflowers was finally forced the find a new goaltender and he will
face a big test on opening day with Marty's. An added interest in this game will
be longtime Wildflowers captain Harry Meeks, Sr. playing with Marty's this
season. Wildflowers has struggled in recent past with Marty's but with a more
focused gameplan this season as well as a few injuries to Marty's could this be
the game they get over the hump?
GAME RECAP
After watching Savoy's win their first game of the season, Marty's went out and took care of business themselves as they played a near perfect game in defeating Wildflowers Too 4-0. Tommy Azzolino stopped them all and recorded his first shutout of the season for Marty's. Mike Carr had a goal and two assists and was named first star of the game. Thomas Binetti scored twice and Phil Drucker put home a power play goal to finish the scoring for the orange. Marty's scorers were good, but their penalty killing unit may have won them the game as they were a perfect 5-for-5 on the PK. Mike Mikewski, making his first start in the CJSHA for Wildflowers Too, was very strong in goal. He kept it a two goal game until nearly half way through the third period. He is replacing a legend (Hipper), but it looks like he'll do just fine.

PREVIEW
The final game of the day
should also be a close one. Katmandu was outscored 9-1 by Ram Law last season
but with a few added players and Mike Klein back between the pipes they should
be an improved team this year. Ram Law returns many of the same players from
last year's squad, including their most important one in Mike DiPilla, who has
been known to steal a game or two a season. Katmandu is known for a big win or
two a season so Ram Law should be on upset alert in week 1.
GAME RECAP
It looks like Heath finally found those keys. Heath Lewis unleased his game on Kat Man Du and took home first star of the game honors with two goals in the second period. Ram Law overcame an early 1-0 defict and went on to a 3-1 win in the opening day matchup. Mike DiPilla was the games second star in goal for Ram, but was countered the entire game, save-for-save by the 19-year old Ryan Rautanen, who was stellar in goal for Kat. It was a one goal game until :41 seconds left when Joe Keane put one in the empty net and put the game away for Ram Law. Mike Klein opened the scoring with 1:35 left in the first period for Kat Man Du, but they were never able to get another past DiPilla. Ryan Loxam had two assists and was the games third star for the winners. | |
