PLAYER OF THE WEEK Week 1 Top Performers
***STAR Matt Luber (Papp's Electric) 4 Goals
**STAR Billy Yocum (Jersey Snipers) 2 Goal 2 Assist
*Star Jay Astbury (Savoy's) Hat-Trick
|
|
PLAYER OF THE WEEK Week 2 Solid Efforts
***STAR John Kuncker (Wildflowers Too) John hit the Wildflowers seen last season along with his brother and seems to be paying off. John is a solid winger with a big shot. He is a quiet player but plays hard always gives a solid effort. After a slow start in week 1 for his Wildflower’s Team, they came to play this week especially John, scoring a Hat-Trick and tacted on an assist. With efforts like this John will be a solid part of Wildflowers season.
**STAR Jimmy Kiernen (Marty’s Place) Our 2 star player of the week with lots of options to chose from but Jimmy seem to be the one that fit. Jimmy has established himself as a top player in the league. A guy that knows the game and he sees the court well. Marty’s playing against a Ram Law team that is usually in the thick of things. Mike Dipilla and his squad usually stingy with giving up goals, but this week with a short bench was not too good. Jimmy had 2 goals and 2 assists in the game, his 1st goal seemed to be the one to break it open and ended up being the game winner.
*Star Steve O’ Connell (Stonecutters) Steve O’Connell a extremely quiet but consistent player for the cutters, a winger with a good wrist shot and given the opportunity makes the best of them. The reason for this pick this week was it was a return match up from the 1st round of the play-offs last season. These teams had a tough battle in the play-offs. In our last game of the day the same was happening through 2 periods. Stonecutters with a 2-1 lead, but in the 3rd Steve scored a big power play goal which started a 5 goal 3rd period and helped his team win the game. He added on an assist later in the period.

|
PLAYER OF THE WEEK Week 3 ASSIST MEN, ALL THE WORK AND NO GLORY
***STAR Jimmy Kiernen (Marty's Place) Jimmy is and has been a great player in this league for years, you have seen his name from time to time but really not sure if enough people realize how good of a player he is. He sees the court well and has good stick handling skills. Don't let his size deceive you, the bigger the game the bigger he plays. This week he stepped aside his large ego (lol) and had assisted on 4 goals to help his team win this past week. Original it was thought to be 3 but believe me he informed CJSHA that he assisted on Chris Wright's last goal so that had to edge him over as our 3 Star Assist Man of this week.
**STAR
Blair Astbury (Savoy's) What can you say about Blair that either has not be said or people do not know. A leader amongst a group of guys that are as talented as anyone. A guy that has to deal with egos such as Sandro Mondello, Ray Destephanis and Guy Ponticello, don't want Blair's job (LOL). He is a leader and a great talent on the court. He praises his team-mates and never gives himself the credit he probably deserves. So this week he is our 2 star player with 3 assists in order to help his team win and his brother :) and Craig earn some goals.
*Star Matt Grivnovics (Snipers) You will be hearing alot about this guy and his 2 brothers as the season goes on. You might ask what is a Grivnovics? Well these guys have the potiental to be getting the recognition as the Astbury's, The Meeks, Martinez's, Lubers and Zaun's. Matt is a talented player and if it makes it better or worse for teams he has played on tournament teams and other leagues with Blair Astbury and you have seen the type of players he has associated himself with. This will be an interesting season for these guys and see how they respond. This week Matt was the "assistman" for 3 goals but also had scored 2 goals to help his team with the 3rd win of the season. So he had to be our 1 Star Player of the Week.
|
|
PLAYER OF THE WEEK Week 4 Scoring A Big Goal or Scoring Big in Numbers?
***STAR Chris "Cappy" Caplin (Savoy's) Cappy is a new player to CJSHA but guys that play in leagues and tournamenta know this guy. You can't miss him the guy is a size of a house built out of Brick but make no mistake he plays exceptionally well and is a top player anywhere he goes. He is Savoy's lastest pick up and along with Scott Bertoli look out. The previews predicted he can be the difference maker in the game of the week. A return match up since the finals of the best 2 teams proved that the previews were right. the Game was tied 1-1 until Chris put in the eventually game winner early in the 3rd period. Due to the match up and how he played in the game, he deserves to be our 3 star player Scoring a Big Goal. Besides he probably should have had 2 goals, the one prior went in and out so fast that it was never credit has a goal. In the game he was not credited he will get his credit in this weeks Player of the Week
**STAR
Brian Beatty (Killarney's) Brian is our 2 Star Player of the Week, since the revamped Rosa's now Killarney's what some might say had an upset over Ram Law, others would not call it an upset. I guess depend which side of the fence you are on. Even though Killarney's is revamped and most people know it has Rosa's Ram Law has established themselves as a top team in this league over the years and until Killarney's gets a track record people will think this win is an upset. So with that in mind with the score tied at 1-1 Brian Beatty, a quick hard nose player who has alot of jump in his legs, scored an unassisted game winning at 2:23 of the 3rd period to give Killarney's their 1st win of the season. So with Scoring a Big Goal that makes him our 2 star player of the week.
*STAR Matt Luber (Papp's Electric) Over the last 2 seasons Matt is quickly establishing himself as a top notch player in this league. He came on the scenes for Papp's and has lead the team in scoring. This season in week 1 he had a 4 goal day this week Matt had Hat Trick and added 3 assists for a whopping 6 point day in a 8-2 win for his team. With this in mind, Matt could have been a 3 Star player but with type of games the other 2 players played in Matt still gets credit for Scoring Big in Numbers with our single star player of the week.
Side Star Johnny Palentine (Stonecutters)
New comer for Stonecutters was just edged out of the Star selection, and as a goalie whose name won't be mentioned, claims the writers for CJSHA website seem to screw the Stonecutters, so to protect the goalie's name, lets just call him RW. we are giving Johnny Palentine for scoring an Hat Trick and 2 assists for a 5 point day, our Scoring Big in Numbers Side Star.
|
|
PLAYER OF THE WEEK Week 5 Week of the Vote
***STAR Jeff Kryzanowski (Papp’s Electric Shockers) Jeff has been part of the Papp’s Franchise for several years. In the past few season he may have been unnoticed through the fame of the Zaun's and even recent times of the Luber's. These players have been a focal point of Papp’s. But Jeff has been constant and always seems to be in the right spot and has gather goals through the years, only gather goals but have got goals in big spots. This week is no different in a big game against Wildflowers trailing 2-0 Jeff not only got the scoring going with late goal in the 2nd to cut the lead. With just under 5 minutes to go the game was tied and about to go into overtime, but at the 1:17 he gave his team the lead and the win. So Jeff was voted in as our 3 Star Player of the week.
**STAR Ryan Rautanen (KatManDu) It took 5 weeks for KatManDu to get there team together and get a win. They have had a short bench and faced a difficult schedule, but this week it seemed they had players and there act together. Since the departure of Dave Bennett Kat needed a goalie and they had picked up a young uprising kid. A few people saw glimpses of him during the summer pick up games but that was it. Despite the record and GAA most people realize that most games KatManDu has been undermanned and had the majority of the action in their zone. Through this players are noticing that he is coming into his own and will hopefully make a big impact and be the rock that Kat needs in net. This week Ryan’s team gave him support with some goals and got there first win. So with that he was voted in and given the 2 Star player of the week.
*Star Chris Wright (Marty’s) Chris has been a solid part of Marty’s and is a talented player. When he loses that attitude he can also be a nice guy. (LOL) But then that wouldn’t be Chris. Chris has the ability to play offense and defense with same skill and is a big part of Marty’s success. If he plays well and head stays in the game Marty’s is tough to beat. He sees the court well and makes others around him better, when he wants. This week there Chris was voted in through in email to be our player of the week. Him and Thomas Binetti both received a vote for getting Hat Tricks in the game, but Chris gets the nod since in his game, his goals came early and set the tone for the rest of the game and helped his team win their 4th victory of the year.

|
PLAYER OF THE WEEK Week 6 Keeping It in The Family
***STAR The Kuncker Boys (Wildflowers) Jon
and Mark each had 4 points in Wildflowers 10-3 victory over
Enterprise. Jon scored 2 goals and added 2 assists. Not to be
outdone, Mark puts the ball in the back of the net 3 times, and adding
1 assist.
**STAR The Grivnovics and the Monacos (Jersey Snipers) You
can’t give 2 players from the same team stars of the week, so we
combine all 5 of them as the second star. The Grivnovics have been a
force since they came into the league, with Danny leading the league in
scoring, and Matt in the top 4. Don’t forget about Andrew, who filled
in for the absent Dave Bennett in recording the win. The Monaco boys
each put up a goal, and assisted on the other’s goal, to lead the
Snipers to a 6-2 win over Ram Law.
*Star The Lubranos (Enterprise) The
Lubranos are new to the league on a new team. Despite Enterprise’s
struggles, The Lubranos have been consistent, being responsible for 4
of the team’s 6 goals on the year. The Lubrano’s are getting the
firehouse on the score sheet, and hopefully the scoring touch will rub
off, and Enterprise will soon get their first win.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK Week 7 WOW What a Day!
***STAR Jay Astbury (Savoy's) What can you say but WOW! Jay has been on a roll was leading scorer last season and could very well do it again this season. New Comer Danny Grivnovics was looking to make a strong case but missing 2 games could hurt his chances due to the pace Jay is scoring. Besides the outstanding efforts from Craig with 3 goals and brother Blair with 2 goals and an assist Jay had a whopping 9 points with 4 goals and 5 assists. What else can you say but WOW what a day for our 3 star performer.
**STAR Rob Shagon (Ram Law) Rob Shagon has been a big part of Ram Law the last couple of seasons. He plays with alot of heart and passion on the court, off the court very laid back without a care in the world. He is a power forward with speed and always seems to have energy. Sometimes you never know where he will be but he is usually around the action. This week could be a first for him since school yard days back in East Windsor but we believe he has scored his 1st Hat Trick of CJSHA. His 3 goals helped his team beat Papp's and stop a 3 game losing streak for that Rob is our, Wow What a Day 2 Star Player.
*Star John Lackey (Marty's Place)
Say what you want about John. He is a solid 2 way defenseman that plays both sides of the ball equally well. Off the court is calm has can be, on the court he is as passionate, firey, thrives on wanting to win every game. He is an aggressive Defenseman with alittle nasty side to him, but hey what good defenseman doesn't. On a team that has the likes of Thomas Binetti, who had a 5 points on the day himself, Harry Meeks Jr, Mike Carr and Jimmy Kiernan (to name a few), not much attention is paid to the 6’5”big man on defense. This week, John may have had a career day, putting the ball in the back of the net 2 times, and adding 3 assists in Marty’s 11-2 victory over Killarney’s Pub and he is our Single Star Wow What A Day Performer.
|
|
PLAYER OF THE WEEK Week 8 New Team-Mates Helping the Cause
***STAR Harry Meeks Sr (Marty's Place) Harry those that have played 2 season with CJSHA know Harry Meeks Sr for better or Worse. Harry is at least a 20 year veteran of the league, in recent years he was the Captain of Wildflowers but this year he decided to make a move and Marty's Welcomed him in order to be able to play along his side his son Harry Jr. We have the current and the future Meeks Generation and I am sure Kenny will be joining in a year or 2. But anyway Harry has had big goals in his career and this week was no different. Facing the commissioner's new team the Snipers. Matt Cento, a former captain of Marty's, both team looking to edge each other and round 1 goes to Marty's. Big part is Harry Meeks Sr 2 goals in the 1st period to give the Snipers there 1st loss. So Marty's new teammate helping their cause gets 3 stars.
**STAR Rob Pietropaula (Stonecutters) Stonecutters looking to improve scoring and to make another run at a championship, decided to pick up some new blood and ones that can add to their scoring which Stonecutters lacked at times. Rob is a hard nose power forward player that plays with passion, drive and with intensity. This is a guy that Cutters can use and he also has a way of scoring when goals are needed. He may not get quantity but it is all about timing. This week this new teammate helped out the Stonecutters cause against a tough Ram Law Team with 2 goals one which was the game winner and improved the Cutters record, this earned Rob our 2 Star Player of the Week.
*Star Joe Avanzato (Killarney's) Joe has been a journey man in this league for years, he has played for Blueline Blasters, Ewingville Towing, Burg Bashers, Savoy's, Stonecutters, Ram Law and now has joined Killarney's. Joe literally comes out every week and plays and he plays hard. If he misses more than 1 Sunday in a year I sure don't know about it. Joe works hard on every shift and also quietly has a very good wrist shot. Guys around the league know him but i think he may be very well alittle more underrated then he should be considered. This week this new teammate scored 3 points 1 goal and 2 assists to help his team that needed a win. This effort earned him our 1 Star Player of the Week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK Week 10 Last Line of Defense Goalies can be heroes or goats in games. Players can be play badly or shine above the rest but when the game is all done with and the last whistle blown the team with the fewest goals against is the winner. It is up to the last line of defense, The Goalie, to be a difference maker. He is the one that is looked upon on the very last shot taken against him. One glove save or one shot re-directed off 2 sticks can be the difference of winning and losing. Ask any goalie they will always take the blame if a goal is given up, no matter if it is a 3 on none or a shot that he sees all the way. Secretly goalies what to be depended on and they want as many shots as they can to prove they are better than the shooter. Goalies have the most difficult job on the court and that is take make sure a ball shot by any 5 players with deflections, ball movement, bad bounces, through traffic or any other numerous obstacles they need to overcome in order to make the save. They can see 30 shots in a game or they can see 3 but either way depending on if that 1 goal goes in can be the difference. So this week’s Players off The Week is dedicated to the last line of Defense…… The Goalie
***STAR Ryan Burger (Howarth Group-Savoy’s) Ryan Burger probably one of the most underrated players on Savoy’s being overlooked by other’s due to the talent on that team. A lot of people may not realize how good of a goalie Ryan is when Savoy’s average’s 3 or 4 goals a game and doesn’t see a lot of shots, but time and time again there will be points in the game where you can look at and a save he made could be the difference. Ryan when needed has played well and game up in some of the biggest games. Some people might think that Ryan has it easy since he doesn’t face alot of shots but that means Ryan has to stay sharper and focus more so he doesn’t get caught not paying attention. Also if he doesn’t give up a goal it is looked at a lot more closely, so even though he has a great team in front of him he still has to be ready to make a big save when needed. This week against the Stonecutters, goals did not come easy and he edged out Rich Wood in a 2-1 Overtime victory where at any point a bad goal could have been the difference of a win or loss. That is why Ryan is our 3 Star “Last Line of Defense” Player of the week
**STAR Rich Wood (Stonecutters) Rich has been a solid goal-tender in this league for years, he has been the back bone of the Stonecutters and 1 piece of the puzzle through trying to find all the right players they never had to worry about a goaltending. Rich shows up week in and week out always ready to play. Too be honest I cannot remember a game that someone pointed to and said the Cutters lost that game due to goaltending. It is extremely rare he gives up more than 3 goals in any game in fact the only time this season was Game 1 against Savoy’s. This week Rich and his teammates had a huge challenge and had to go against the 2nd leading goal scoring team and undefeated Savoy’s, who average almost 6 goals per game. Rich and counterpart Ryan Burger stood toe to toe making save after save keeping The Howarth Group to only 1 goal through 3 periods. But in the end Rich was on the unfortunate outcome for the Cutters losing 2-1 in overtime. But his efforts never the less does not go unnoticed and that is why Rich Wood is our 2nd Star “Last Line of Defense” Player of the Week.
*Star Steve Szuter (Ram Law) Steve Szuter a long time member of our league #47 has been a big part of Ram Law he plays defense and can play forward, but he is also their back-up goalie behind Mike Dipilla. Players know it is never easy to step in for a starter. Whether it may be feeling rusty or just timing, especially when he may only play goal once or twice in a season. This week in a must needed win to keep pace and not fall too far behind in the standings. Ram Law players where saying Mike Who? :) Steve “Brick Wall” Szuter helps his team earn a big win and for stepping in and winning the game, he is our single star “Last Line of Defense” Player of the Week.

UN “D”-Rated
In hockey game most people talk about the pretty goals scored, that perfectly placed pass or that great glove save. They are great moments and fun to watch no doubt, but what about the dirty job of defense. Sure all teams talk about team defense but sometimes in games after the huddle and chat about it, it quickly gets loss with someone trying to cheat as far up for that break away or hanging at the last moment to get a quick outlet pass trying to get that goal. Who is left behind but the 2 defenseman and goalie to sometimes take on a out numbered situation such as those 2 on 1, 3 on 1, 3 on 2 or 5-3 because the offense is still lagging in the offensive zone. There are great defensemen that guys know from being around the league for a long time, their reputation for their abilities; skill and knowledge have helped their teams be successful. Players such as: Brian Dey, Marek Lachmanowicz, John Lackey, Guy Ponticello, Steve Szuter, Chris Wright. There are a lot of good defensemen that do not get the recognition they should but are key components to their team and each team know who they are. This weeks PLAYER OF THE WEEK will recognize 3 Defensemen for different reasons.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Week 10
UN "D" RATED
***STAR Doug Hunt (Howarth Group-Savoy’s) Doug has been mentioned a time or two, but only those that have been a team-mates of Doug really realize how solid of a player and how valuable he is. He is a big defenseman with good agility and speed for a big man. The Howarth Group is known for their high powered offense averaging a remarkable 6 goals a game. Though there are times they play tight 1 and 2 goal games especially in the play-offs that comes down to defense and goal-tending. Doug is not a vocal guy and can be missed amongst a team that is not afraid to speak their minds out loud. Doug speaks volumes of what he does on the court and the solid defense he provides for his team and I am sure Ryan Burger will agree having Mr. Hunt in front of him is a major plus. Doug I believe is considered to be in the top tier of defensemen and with his 1 Goal and 1 Assist in a tough played game against Wildflowers he deserves to be our 3 Star Un”D”Rated Player of the Week.
**STAR Mark Odenheimer (KatManDu) Mark has been in the league for a few years and has been a dedicated team-mate for KatManDu extremely rare if he misses a game, plays hard every week. Mark has size and is considered a stay at home defenseman. Unfortunately KatManDu over the years has had some tough times with having players show up consistently week in and week out which turns around and hurts them in the long haul. They have a group of 6 players that are really dedicated and Mark is one of those players. They have showed fight and have had a couple of respectable years but this year has been tough scoring goals and trying to get wins each week. John Flynn is the vocal leader as well as a heck of a defenseman for this team, and is usually the one that gets the attention good or bad. Mark has not been known for his offense and especially not scoring, but this year he is tied with Mike Klein leading his team with 5 points; 4 goals and 1 assist. Though Kat had a tough week with Marty’s he still managed to give his team a brief 1-0 lead. This week we give Mark Odenheimer our 2 Star UN”D”Rated Player of the Week.
*Star Mike Lederhandler (Stonecutters)
Mike is a 2nd year player to the CJSHA but not new to hockey. He has played in leagues in Philadelphia and South Jersey. We are glad to have him here in our league and he will make a difference to the Stonecutters who needed a big man on Defense. Mike stands just over 6 foot, a solid physical defenseman that plays well in front of his goaltender but also has offensive skills when needed with a big shot. Though the Stonecutters have had successful seasons with a Championship Ring and a few final appearances, they were always short of that big defenseman. They have had many skilled and excellent defensemen such as Marek Lachmanowicz leading that category, but other than Dave Boskley never really had a big physical defenseman, This year they have 2, Chris Blessing is the other. Chris will get his due also but right now with Mike being in his Sophmore year with the league I believe he is a underrated defenseman and what he brings to the table to the Cutters. Mike will earn the respect of being a good defenseman in this league with his smart play and hard work on the court. He helped out the Cutters with a 1 goal and 1 assist in their win and this new guy earned our 1 Star UN”D”Rated Player of the Week.

|
PLAYER OF THE WEEK Week 11 A Shooter on a Roll, A New Shooter, An Electric Shooter
***STAR Charlie Ahr (Ram Law) Charlie Ahr is a guy who is not short on words or short on effort. He is a long time member of CJSHA and a long time member Ram Law (AKA Mercer Flames, Peter’s Place and Mustangs) Charlie has always been a hard nose player and puts forth a great effort each and every time on the court. His goals are not always pretty but honestly do they have to be. On a streaky team in recent years with scoring goals, and the ones they do score or ones that are not always planned but hey as long as it goes in the net. Charlie has been a big part of his team usually leading the team in scoring or if not right they’re at the top. He finds ways and has a history of scoring a lot of unassisted goals. This week in a game two against Killarney’s Ram Law needed to revenge a loss. They did that with a 5-0 win and Charlie was a big key of that with a Hat Trick. But the reason this week Charlie is our 3 Star Player of The Week, not only did he help his team with a Hat Trick that was his 3rd Straight, 9 goals in 3 games, that is the most goals scored in 3 straight games this year. Now that is A Shooter on a Roll.
**STAR Chris Abrams (Jersey Snipers) Apparently the Snipers might had a hidden Sniper. He was on the roster but due to injury missed the 1st half of the season and he had played in only his 3rd game but has made an impact already. This extra Sniper might have come in just at the right time. Unfortunately we don’t know much about him except he is small, quick and has showed some skill. Chris Abrams made an impact in only his 3rd game with a Hat Trick, which ended up including the game winning goal and an assist for 4 points. The Snipers have found a new shooter and our 2 star Player Of The Week.
*Star Matt Luber (Papp’s Electric) Matt and his Brother have made a big impact to Papp’s Electric and are starting to be major players in the league. We are glad to have good players like this and I am sure their teammates feel the same. The guys are 2 of the smaller players in the league; they give Sandro a run for his money, but they run and have electric speed and are skilled players. This season unfortunately Kevin has missed half the season so Matt had to carry on and has performed well. In 9 games in his in the top 15 scoring with 14 points and always seems to score at the right time. This week in a close game against a feisty KatManDu team Matt with 2 goals along with his line-mate Jeff Kryzanowski having the game winner, help Papp’s to their 5th win and on the heels of 5th place Ram Law. Matt’s efforts in a close game earns him Papp’s Electric Shooter and our single star Player of The Week.

|
PLAYER OF THE WEEK Week 12 Whatever It Takes
***STAR Rob Pietropaula (Stonecutters) Rob is a new Stonecutter recruit and one of the reasons the Cutters are playing very well. He is a hard nose old school player that leaves it all on the court. He is a stocky strong power forward he drives to the net and is not afraid to battle. This year along side now leading team scorer Mark Rodriguez (M-Rod) he took over 2nd in team scoring with his performance this week. This week, a short benched Cutter team faced a always unpredictable and tough Papp's team, each looking to advance in the standings. In order to win this week, Rob scored the Cutters first 4 goals of the game, and helped them in a 5-2 victory to advanced to 3rd place. Rob's efforts to do whatever it takes, earns hi our 3 Star Player of the Week.
**STAR Jason Torretta (Wildflowers Too) Over the years there have been a lot of brother combinations a few examples; The Astburys, Martinezs, Kunckers, Lubers, Zauns....We have even a father son in the Meeks. This year we have 2 new combos, The Lubranos from Enterprise but we also got now the Torretta's of Wildflowers. Matt has been a long time member of the league and good player for Wildflowers. This year he brought his brother Jason who is proven also to be a good "Assist" to the team. Jason is 3rd in team scoring with 8 points behind Jon and Mark Kuncker and leads the team in assists with 6. This year Wildflowers does not have as many wins as they have expected, but this team always plays with alot of heart and never give's up. They also have a ability to beat anybody at anytime. For a team that is missing Nick Creo due to injury and looking for scoring help Jason has stepped in nicely and we look forward to seeing more of him. With his 1 goal and 1 assist to do whatever it takes to give his team a 3-1 win he is our 2 Star Player of the Week.
*Star Danny Byard (Howarth Group/Savoy's) The Howarth Group/Savoy's team has done nothing but consistly win over the years. Though they have alot of talented players on the team, but like other teams not all of them show up. Some teams that can be a distraction others play through it. Blair expects the same performance from his team no matter who is on the bench, whether they have 7 players or 16 players. The only way a team can be consistant is to do whatever takes to win that day. Though Blair has alot of talented weapons on his team, he always has his "Smooth Player" as he describes him, up his sleeve. That player would be Danny Byard, a smart player with knowledge and skill for the game. One of the more quiet players verbally out their but can play as big and loud as anyone on the court. The reason Danny is Blair's ace up the sleeve is depending who shows up Danny plays forward as a wing or center, defense and even plays goalie when Ryan is not available. He plays all the postitions well and Blair has confidence because where ever Danny plays there is no drop off. This week Danny did whatever it takes for The Howarth Group to stay undefeated and earned a shut-out win in Net, that is why he is our Single Star Player of The Week.

|
PLAYER OF THE WEEK Week 13 Shoot Out and Shot Down
***STAR Tom Azzolino (Marty's Place) Tom Azzolino has been a least a 20 year member of CJSHA from Top Road Tavern to Villa Park to JoJo's Tavern and now Marty's Place. Tom has been a good goalie over the many years and in recent years has really shined including winning a Championship and been too a few finals. Tom shows up week in and week out, if he misses 2 games a year that is a lot. Anyone that has played on his team knows besides being a great goalie he is truly a great person and team-mate. Coming into this week Marty's had lost their last 2 games and dropped to 3rd place and now facing the 2nd place Snipers, a team that has plenty of offense and fire power and looking to put some separation between them and Marty's. In a needed game and had already given the Snipers their only loss they will need to be on their toes especially the goalie. Well Tom not only did that but he shut down the high powered offense of the Snipers and made at least 4 brilliant saves from point blank shots that could have been the difference. For Tom's performance and effort that Shot Down and Shut Out the Snipers, he is our 3 Star Player of the Week.
**STAR Britt Reid (Ram Law)
Britt Reid another long time member of CJSHA, who is one of the few guys that has been with the same team, despite change of Sponsor and team names over the last 15 years. That is dedication, he also probably has some dedicated fans that love to hate Britt on court, and he has dedication to his team and shows up week in and week out, another guy who rarely misses games and a guy you can write in the line up every week. Britt is known for his offense and agitating other players on the court. After a up and down start at a 3-5 record they have ran off 4 straight wins and have played much better. Their horse in net has been Mike Dipilla who has had the weight on his shoulders over the years and games have been won or loss depending on his play. This week with Mike out and their back-up Steve Szuter apparently under a new contract negotiations to play net, they called upon Britt Reid??? Who knew. Playing against a tough Stonecutter team you look at this and say a Win for the Cutters. But apparently no one told Ram Law this not only did Britt only give up 2 goals and made it through overtime but he came through in the Shoot-Out and helped Ram Law win their 5th in a Row and that is why he is our 2 Star Player of the Week.
*Star Steve Painter (Killarney's) Steve is a new player to our league only a 3rd year player starting out with Rosa's and this year with Killarney's. He is a defenseman not known for his scoring and we believe has not scored leading up to this week. Steve is a dedicated player that shows up week in and week out on a team that desperately needs consistent players to show up. He is one of the few that do and that helps any team. This week in a shoot out game that had 15 goals scored not only did Steve score his first goal but he tallied for 3 goals to help his team win a game that they needed. So for scoring his first 3 goals in a 15 goal shoot-out of a game between these 2 teams,he is our single start player of the week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK Week 14 Key Team Player, Under The Radar
***STAR Mark Mattilano (KatManDu) Mark is a long time member of CJSHA and dedicated to his team and a guy that is around consistently and plays with a lot of heart. Mark is one of many guys that teams or players do not know a lot of. He has played on the same team as long as I have known despite name changes. Unfortunately over the years they have either under achieved or was middle of the road, due to lack of players or key players showing up. This week in a tough played game Mark lead his team with 2 goals and 1 assist and is his team leader with 10 points. Mark is one of about 5 players on his team that is a Key factor and one who flies under the radar. This week for his individual effort and his team effort all year, Mark Mattilano is our 3 Star Player of the Week.
**STAR Ryan Burger (Howarth Group/Savoy’s) Ryan a guy who people heard his name but probably because of his team that he plays on is an afterthought to a lot of people. But that is far from the truth and not in the case of his team-mates. Despite playing on a team that scores a lot of goals, Ryan needs to be on his toes as the protector of the net. He knows if he gives up a goal he will have to hear the wrath of the Captain. His job actually is not as easy as it seems because though he may not face as many shots as a lot of other goalies and those that can get in a rhythm, Ryan needs to be prepare for the ones he does see. Any goal can be a difference maker and if he has less shots that means they are more important. The Howarth Group is looking to finish undefeated and besides the offense their team goals against is 14. That is because Ryan has a .89 GAA which is outstanding. He is giving up just under 1 goal a game. That is including playing the high offense of Marty’s twice and this past week Snipers giving up only 3 goals in 3 games. That is why Ryan is a key player for The Howarth Group and flies under the Radar but not this week as he is our 2 Star Player of the Week.
*Star Danny Virgal (Enterprise) Danny is a new player to the league playing on a new team. Enterprise is a team that is trying to find itself and to find scoring as well. Despite winless to this point Danny shows up every Sunday morning and gives a tremendous effort. Along with the Lubrano brothers Mike and Joe, Danny has been responsible for one third of their goals. A team that has scored 17 goals Danny has claim to 5 of them and 2 coming this week in a game that was close to being their 1st win. Despite losing the game Danny is a key player to Enterprise but is flying under the radar in our Single Star Player of the Week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK Week 15 Believe It or Not
***STAR Craig Hartman (Howarth Group/Savoy's)
Craig Hartman is very well known in this League a 6 footer with a nasty wrist shot that seems to beat all goaltenders at one time or another. Plays on the big 3 line with Blair and Jay, also is usually in the top 3 in scoring and to this point he is 2nd in Goals Scored. The amazing thing about Craig's Stats is he is usually in the overall top 3 guys of scoring and believe us he gets no help in the assist column. That shows you how dangerous of a goal scorer Craig is. In fact we heard from a team member, that the only way he gets assists from craig is either from a rebound or a mistake. We won't oust the Captain out but that is just what we heard. This week though Craig not only did he NOT score a goal but had 4 points. So for that non-selfish effort and in one game doubling his assists for the season, Believe It or Not, Craig Hartman has earned our 3 Star Player of The Week.
**STAR Jeff Krzyzanowski (Papp's) Jeff is slowly and quietly starting to get his name mentioned along with some top scorers and rightfully so. He plays on a team that is not loaded with goal scorers and has been in need of a while. Since the emergence of Matt and Kevin Luber they have helped Papp's with some desperate need of scoring. But the funny thing is even before there arrival Jeff always seems to find himself in the right position. He is not a speed player or a finese player but a guy that seems to like the crease area and has some mighty good hands. Jeff is 2nd in team scoring with 16 points he also is only 1 of 8 players in the league with 3 game winning goals. The last time in week 5 when Papp's was down by 2 goals, Jeff scored the game winnning goal and this week again in a 2nd come from behind win Jeff got the goal that counted the most. So for that Believe it or Not Jeff has also earned our 2 Star Player of the Week.
*Star John Flynn (KatManDu) This week in a tough match up for KatmanDu they had to play a Snipers team who had lost 2 in a row and needed a win. Kat has been plagued with a very short bench game in and game out for one reason or another. There are a core of 7 players that have been pretty consistant and we all know in this league it is difficult to play with a short bench. Ryan Rautanen a very good young goalie who has been their starter this year was out sick. Not only was KatManDu short and I mean they had 6 players, with Mike Klein out and Jay Bauldree their 3 stringer goalie out, Believe it or Not John Flynn had to Step in-beteween the pipes. Though the score was not a pretty one John did manage to make a few surprising saves using is baseball Catcher skills to try to get him through. So for stepping up to the plate and giving that effort alone we gave John Flynn our 1 Star Player of The Week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK Week 16 What A Day!
***STAR Danny Virgal (Enterprise) We
had 4 other games which on paper could have been the game of the week
but it turned out to be the last game of the day. Last time Enterprise
and KatManDu played Kat edged Enterprise out 4-3 to keep Enterprise
from winning a game. The Determination by this group of guys still
coming out week in and week out and staying postive shows alot from
this team. Teams in the past haven't even finished a season when things
wet wrong but Enterprise continue to battle and show alot of heart and
what this game needs. This week finally Enterprise got the monkey off
their back and got their 1st victory. They turned the tables and got a
4-3 win against KatManDu and one of the offensive postitives for
Enterprise along with the Lubrano Brothers has been Danny Virgal this
week he got a Hat Trick including the Game Winner to give his team a
victory, for that Danny receives our "What A Day" 3 Star Player of the
Week
**STAR Heath Lewis (Ram Law) This
free agent has made his way around the league and has been on a few
different teams. But where ever he goes he makes an impact. Heath is a
5 footer (barely lol) but he playes like a big 7 footer. He hustles
battles in corners, has speed and can be shifty but he seems to get the
job done. Heath seemed to have impact in alot of games for Ram Law this
year and this week is no exception. In a game against Wildflowers who
jumped out to a 2-0 lead Heath scored a tying goal at 4:34 of the 2nd
period and from their Ram Law did not look back. Heath finished out the
day with a Hat Trick. Heath receives our "What A Day" 2 Star Player of
the Week
* Star Blair Astbury (Howarth Group Savoy's) Phil Drucker (Marty's Place) This
last star was very difficult to decide who should get it. Both players
had great games against 2 good teams, but both players showed why their
teams are 1 and 2.
In the first Match up Marty's vs Stonecutters, Phil Drucker is a 6'3 big man with size and physical play. A smart player with drive, not a very pretty finese player put gets the job done. He makes players around him better just from his physcial presence to open up space. This week Phil got a Hat Trick and an assist and was a key in Marty's 9-3 Victory. The later Match up pitted The Undefeated Howarth Group vs Jersey Snipers. I think by now most of the guys know or at least has heard of Blair Astbury. He is the driving force and captain behind this runaway train. Blair is known for winning and does not accept less and this week he grab the bull by the horns and in a 5-0 win Blair received 4 points with 1 Goal and 3 Assists. For these players efforts they both get our single star "What A Day!" Player of the Week

PLAYER OF THE WEEK Week 17
***STAR Dave Bennett (Snipers) Dave Bennett a longtime member of CJSHA former Kings and KatManDu Goalie, A Steady goalie for years who can step up and play as big as any goalie. He is one of the Taller goalies in the league and he uses his length well. This week in a game that will solified his teams 3rd place seeding against a tough Ram Law team stepped up to the plate. Him and his counter part Mike Dipilla needed more than just overtime to decide the winner in this game. Both Mike and Dave played well and made big saves, but this game needed a shoot-out to decide a winner. Unfortunately for Mike in a 26 person shoot-out he made 11 saves out of 13, Dave made 12 out of 13 and for that is our 3 Star Player of the Week.
**STAR Jack Howarth (Howarth Group-Savoy's) Jack has been mentioned before he is one of the toughest players in the league and guy that is arguable one of the best trench players in the league . He battles like no one and is a rock in front of the opposing net. With the Blair, Jay and Craig getting alot of the attention he is a key guy on that team that may get overlooked. His efforts in today's game paid off scoring 3 goals and 1 assist for points on his teams 1st 6 goals of the game. His effort earns him our 2nd Star Player of the Week
*Star Jon Kuncker (Wildflowers Too) Jon has been a guy this year who has scored in bunches this week he helped his team by scoring being involved in 6 out of the 8 goals, which included an Hat-Trick and 3 Assists. For his 6 point effort he is our single star player of the week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK Week 18 The Best of Two
***STAR Tommy Kozub (Killarney's Pub) Tommy a new member of CJSHA and a new member to Killarney's has been a good pick up for Killarney's. This week in the only game to have some meaning against KatManDu for seeding Killareny's stepped up and won a game they needed and Tommy scored 2 Goals including the game winner to help his teams cause. For this effort Tommy is our 3 Star "Best of Two" Player of the Week
**STAR Ed Sepe (Stonecutters) Ed Sepe a long time member of the CJSHA and Stonecutters had been awol for the last couple of season but this year has been around the majority of the season. A guy who is a player who can be used on defense or offense and guy who quietly is a key player and guy that knows the game. When the Stonecutters won their championship he was a key member and looking to have a big part again in the play-offs. This week against a Sniper team who edged them out for 3rd place wanted to make a statement. This week in a game heading into the play-offs Stonecutters played a strong a game and Ed Sepe had a big part of that scoring 2 goals including the game winner in a 4-2 victory sends them feeling good and has Snipers heading into the play-offs needing to re-group.
*Star Mike Zaun (Papp's Electric) Mike Zaun another of our longtime member to our organization and part of the 3 Z's combo with his brothers. The last couple season they added a couple of guys to help out the work load and they have paid off. Though Mike's name has been quiet this season he is always a threat in a big spot. He is a big power foward that can score at anytime and always causes traffic in front of a net. This week in a game that was played with alot of passion from both Papp's and Wildflowers, Papp's ended up edging out the game with Mike Zaun scoring with :44 seconds left before overtime for the game winner and 2nd of the game. For his efforts he is our Single "Best of 2" Player of the week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK Wildcard / Quaterfinals Stepping Up in a Must Needed Spot
***STAR Jay Bauldree (Katmandu) A tough year for Katmandu, not much man power can hurt any team, especially a team that needs bodies to play well. Over the past few years there are no more than a handful of players that have been there week in and week out better or worse. Kat always shows heart and battle but just the numbers are against them. One of the consistant players have been there is one of the leaders and captain/co-captain Jay Bauldree. This year though they only have 2 wins they have had some good games and couple could have gone either way. This week playing in a 1 Game elmination Wildcard game against Killareny's, Katmandu is without their other leader John Flynn who is one of Kat's key goal scorers and big defenseman, Jay knows the team needed to step up. Katmandu did respond and so did their Leader Jay got an assist and scored a goal late in the 3rd to tie the game to go into overtime which they ended up winning. So for Stepping up in a must needed win Jay Bauldree earns our 3 Star Player of The Week.
**STAR Mike Dipilla (Ram Law) In what was too be on paper the toughest game of the day and series. A battle of similar teams from grittiness and games that are usually played to the end being a 1 or 2 goal outcome. This game was no exception, in a very tough quarterfinal match up Ram Law and Stonecutters will have a tough road for which ever team moves on, due to this being only the 1st round. These 2 teams rely heavy on their net keepers and both Mike Dipilla and Rich Wood take it very personally game in and game out which is why they are solid netminders. This week in quarter final game 1 Mike edged out Stonecutter's Rich Wood 2-1. Due to the type of match up and the game these guys played; for winning a tough game and stepping up, goalie Mike Dipilla earned this weeks 2 Star Player of The Week.
*Star Matt Grivnovics (Snipers) This year a new team the Snipers are trying to figure out where they stand. Well they ended up finishing 3rd with questions on how good is this team. Losing games to Marty's and Howarth Group and not looking good and losing to 4th seed Stonecutters in the last game of the season, Snipers need to play well in the Play-offs. This week they got Papp's in round 1. Papp's a team that has improved in the last 2 years and do not go away easy. They got players that make things happen and players that seem to find goals, so despite what the standings say, this will not be an easy series. Matt Grivnovics has been a big part of this team and this week scoring 2 goals that put the snipers ahead 2-1 and 3-2, the 2nd goal being the game winner late in the 3rd period. For Stepping up in a needed win for the Snipers Matt Grivnovics is our 1 Star Player of The Week.
